During the last period, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism adopted ambitious strategies & plans to Combat all the challenges Facing the tourism sector in recent years, especially the outbreak of the “Corona” virus, where these efforts have managed to overcome those challenges and return Egypt to its leading position on the global tourism map. With the recovery of the tourism sector and its continuous supporting efforts, investment opportunities in Egypt are significantly increasing for the private sector in a way that enables investors to participate in those plans aiming to further promote & develop its infrastructure, so that Egypt remains the preferred destination in the global tourism market. Accordingly,The Canada Egypt Business Council and the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation had the honor to host H.E. Dr. Khaled Al-Anani; Minister of Tourism and Antiquities discussing the topic “The Future of Egyptian Tourism amid the Current Challenges”. In the opening remarks Eng. Motaz Raslan; on behalf of CEBC & ECIC; was pleased to welcome H.E. Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, the presence of our dear distinguished ambassadors, members, guests and the followers of the meeting via online live streaming, hoping that things will return to normal soon and our meetings will be with the direct attendance of all. He started his words stating that the tourism sector in Egypt has suffered from setbacks and severe crises for more than 11 years, specifically since 2011. He mentioned that the ministry adopted an innovative strategy for tourism promotion and adopted a new approach and implemented many huge events, including the mummy transfer parade in April 2021 and the Rams Road celebration last November. He added that Egypt came among the top 100 tourist destinations in the world and seventh in the Middle East and Africa in the Best Cities Index. Also he affirned that Lonely Planet, the largest reference and guide to travel around the world, ranked Egypt among the top 10 tourist destinations countries in 2022. Finally, all indicators confirm that 2022 will be a different and distinct year at the level of Egyptian tourism for being full of events, aspirations to restore Egypt to its significant position on the map of global tourism. From this side, H.E. Dr. Khaled Al-Anani talked about the most prominent developments in the tourism and antiquities sector during the last period, referring to some legislative measures related to the tourism and antiquities sector, including the amendment of the Antiquities Protection Law twice in 2018 and 2020 to increase the penalty for theft and smuggling of antiquities and to fight stealth excavation and climbing and others. This is in addition to issuing Laws establishing two economic bodies, namely the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority in 2020 and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.Dr. Al Anani went on to praise the Authority in 2021. parliament’s approval of the Tourism and Antiquities Support Fund Law to maximize the fund’s income, and the Hotel and Tourist Facilities Law to facilitate investors to terminate licenses, which have not been amended since the seventies of the last century. The Minister also endorsed referred to the efforts made by the state to confront the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic and the resumption of the tourist movement coming to Egypt from the space of precautionary measures and health safety controls in hotel and tourist facilities, museums, archaeological sites, airports and tourism activities .He added that international companies have worked on reviewing the health requirements in hotel facilities, in addition to vaccinating all workers in the tourism sector, which has gained the trust & credibility in Egypt’s tourism destinations The minister spoke about the ministry’s strategy for sustainable development and its objectives within the framework of Egypt’s Vision 2030, as it works to advance the tourism and antiquities sectors in Egypt and optimize the use of the state’s tourism, natural, human and archaeological resources and work to ensure their sustainability. He went on to explain that the ministry main aim is to encourage domestic tourism, increase tourism and archaeological awareness, carry out archaeological excavations, implement projects to secure, restore and maintain antiquities, and build and develop museums throughout the Republic. Dr. Al Anani affirmed the state’s support for the tourism sector, and the initiatives of the Central Bank of Egypt to support the sector. He also referred to the electronic services provided by the ministry to tourists, including allocating a hotline for the ministry to receive their suggestions and complaints and respond to their inquiries, in addition to activating the text messaging service for tourists upon their arrival in Egypt to welcome them and inform them of the ministry’s hotline number and other emergency numbers, in addition to issuing electronic tickets To enter museums and archaeological sites. He added that 74 nationalities can obtain a tourist visa to Egypt electronically, or grant them an emergency visa upon arrival at the Egyptian ports. The minister went on to explain the features of the media strategy to promote tourism in Egypt, this is in addition to launching several electronic promotional campaigns on various social media platforms in a number of the main tourist markets exporting tourism to Egypt. Among these campaigns’ s (Sunny Christmas) campaign to promote the Egyptian tourist destination for the winter season 2022, and the campaign that was launched to promote the Egyptian tourist destination in The Russian market, in which Egypt won the best promotional campaign launched on social media platforms in Russia. He also concluded his remarks that Egypt won the award for the best propaganda film in the Middle East for the category of exceptional stories about sustainable tourism, during the international competition launched by the World Tourism Organization. The minister pointed out that the celebrations of the Royal Mummies Procession and Luxor Rams Road, and their great impact in promoting Egyptian tourism and creating more passion among the global tourists to visit Egypt and see ancient Egyptian antiquities, in addition to their contribution to raising the tourist and archaeological awareness among the masses of the Egyptian people.
