Canada Egypt Business Council (CEBC) & the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation (ECIC) were honored to organize and host this convention which was held on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 & attended by the distinguished guests whom were highly curious in deliberating The Egyptian Archaeology and its Current Projects” The Egyptian archaeological sector has built a great recovery in the current period, between a series of new discoveries and the restoration of thousands of stolen artifacts, as well as the implementation of many archaeological projects led by the Grand Egyptian Museum, which enhances Egypt’s position on the world tourism map, and contributes to support the economic development plans. However in light of all these successes, there are a number of challenges that continue to face the Ministry of Antiquities, on top of which is the funding and the consequences of events going in the region which is definitely affecting the inbound tourism traffic. In this context; CEBC& ECIC had the honor to host H.E. Dr. Khaled El-Anany Minister of Antiquities. In the opening remarks; Eng. Motaz Raslan, Chairman of CEBC & ECIC welcomed the presence of a large number of officials and experts and Arab and foreign ambassadors and members of CEBC &ECIC & the respected speaker; H.E. Dr. Khaled El-Anany Minister of Antiquities, then he added during his speech that the archaeological sector witnessed during this period a great revival between the discoveries and the restoration of thousands of stolen artifacts, as well as the implementation of many archaeological projects, led by the Great Egyptian Museum during the era of the current Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Khaled Al-Anany. The Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled El-Anany pointed out that the antiquities sector was the most affected sector during the past years and the weak tourist movement contributed to the cessation of many development projects and restoration of archaeological areas and placed a heavy burden on the ministry, which includes 35 thousand employees. Dr. Khaled El-Anany said that the largest archaeological cache was discovered in the cemetery of Asasif in the western mainland of Luxor Governorate, by the men of the Egyptian archaeological mission, where it was discovered 30 coffins belonging to the family 22 of the Pharaonic times, where it was placed in a warehouse near the surface of the earth to protect it from thefts and for the first time in the history of Egypt The ministry of antiquities arrives to work about 40 Egyptian archaeological missions in various archaeological sites in different governorates, with pure Egyptian hands to work in exposing the ancient Egyptian civilization to the whole world, where these Egyptian missions include distinct teams of labor, technicians and archaeologists. The Minister of Antiquities announced that due to the importance of the archaeological discovery and the number of coffins discovered, which amounts to about 30 sarcophagus, a place at the Grand Museum has been designated for displaying them under the name of Al-Asasif cache. The Minister also referred to a number of ongoing national projects such as the Baron Palace Restoration Project, which is scheduled to open during the current month of December and convert it into an exhibition that narrates the history of the Heliopolis neighborhood and Heliopolis, in addition to opening many national museums such as the Sohag National Museum in the presence of the President of the Republic, and praised the ongoing work to develop The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the opening of a number of its halls during the next few months and the transfer of royal mummies to him in a solemn procession of the Egyptian Museum of liberation, in addition to moving forward with the establishment of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is when it opens the gift of Egypt to the world. He pointed out to the Ministry of Antiquities has developed the open-air museum for the Matareya obelisk in March 2018, and the President opened the Matruh antiquities museum. The renovation project of Al-Azhar Mosque was opened under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as well. A huge statue of King Ramses II was erected in front of the first edifice of Luxor Temple after it was re-assembled by an Egyptian team. The height of the statue is 11 meters and it was broken into 57 pieces and the Sohag national museum was opened. In addition to a number of other archeological projects such as lowering the level of groundwater in Kom Ombo and the Osiris in Sohag the tombs of Kom el Shoqafa in Alexandria. He stressed that the Ministry of Antiquities is witnessing exceptional support from the political leadership in particular and the Prime Minister in general, as Egypt may have excellence in some sectors, but uniquely antiquities. Around 300 archaeological missions from 25 countries, including 50 from Egypt, illustrate why a large number of recent archaeological discoveries are being carried out almost on a regular basis to Egyptian missions. The Minister of Antiquities drew the attention of attendees to the role played by foreign exhibitions in activating the cultural tourism movement to Egypt. The exhibition of the treasures of King Tutankhamun, which has so far visited three countries – America, France and now in the British capital, London – includes a very small collection of treasures of the young king in Egypt, which number more than 5400 pieces. He continued that the exhibition encouraged the American, French, British and all the people of the world to visit Egypt to see the rest of the treasures of the young king and learn about its ancient and unique civilization. Then he explained that according to statistics conducted by the organizer of the exhibition, that until the last hours before the official opening of the exhibition has been sold 300 thousand tickets, This is more than the number of tickets sold before the official opening of the exhibition at its second stop in the French capital, Paris, which achieved more than 1.4 million visitors. The floor was then opened for questions and answers session, where several questions and suggestions were discussed and many of the attendees praised the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Antiquities to improve the services of visitors to archaeological sites through partnership with the private sector, and the role they also play to attract world attention to Egypt and their efforts through archaeological discoveries and projects.
