“The historical setting of the 19th century palace turned Marriot hotel was the perfect backdrop to an entertaining and eloquent speech by His Excellency Dr. Fathi Sorour, President of The Peoples’ Assembly of Egypt. Following the speech of our esteemed guest was a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Abdel Latif El Manawy Chairman of the News Sector, Egyptian Television. Mr. Motaz Raslan Chairman CEBC introduced Dr. Sorour, and touched upon the importance of Egyptian – Canadian bilateral relations. Mr. Raslan then went on to outline the many career triumphs of the distinguished guest. Dr. Sorour proceed to give a highly informative speech. Before addressing recent and future constitutional reform Dr. Sorour engaged the attendees by explaining what a constitution should be – emphasizing that primarily it should reflect the political aspirations of the people it serves. Dr. Sorour briefed attendees on prospective amendments to the constitution and requested that the attendees follow up with ‘difficult questions!’ The question and answer session was lively and addressed some interesting topics including, religion and politics, voting, e-voting and constitutional change all of which Dr. Sorour answered deftly. “
